NEW YORK, Jan 31 (Bernama-dpa) -- Secretary-General António Guterres has warned of the "imminent financial collapse" of the United Nations (UN) due to unpaid contributions from its former largest donor, the United States (US), reported German Press Agency (dpa).
Guterres said that the financial situation of the organisation is rapidly deteriorating, and if no solution is found, the funds for the regular budget could run out in July, according to a letter from the UN chief to the 193 member states, which was made available to dpa in New York on Friday.
Guterres asked all member states to either pay on time or reform the UN's financing regulations.
The US alone currently owes the UN several billion dollars.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticised the organisation in the past.
