LOS ANGELES (California), Jan 31 (Bernama-dpa) -- Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara, who played the screen mother of young Kevin in the hit comedy Home Alone, has died, said her management on Friday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

O'Hara, 71, died on Friday after a "short illness" at her home in Los Angeles, according to her management.

The Canadian appeared in many comedies, including as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice (1988) and in the sequel Beetlejuice (2024).

In the Hollywood hit "Home Alone," which made Macaulay Culkin a child star, she portrayed the mother of the young title character, who was accidentally left at home by his parents during a Christmas trip.

Alongside fellow Canadian actor Eugene Levy, O'Hara shone in the sitcom Schitt's Creek, playing a couple who, following financial ruin, relocate with their family from a mansion to a motel in the small town of Schitt's Creek.

Her role as Levy's wife in the award-winning series earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
