AKPS Thwarts Entry Of Illegal Frozen Meat, Coffee Beans In Port Klang Raid

SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized frozen pork and duck meat as well as coffee beans weighing a total of 44.6 tonnes, valued at RM916,156.02, during inspections at West Port, Klang, near here.

Port Klang AKPS Control and Protection Commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said all the goods were seized to prevent the risk of animal diseases entering the country and to ensure food safety and public health interests continued to be safeguarded.

“The frozen duck and pork originated from western Europe and were imported without valid import permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS), involving seizure weights of 16.1 tonnes and 24.9 tonnes, respectively.

“The coffee beans, meanwhile, were from Latin American countries and were found to have been imported without the FAMA 3P Certificate as required under the relevant laws. The total seizure weight was 3.5 tonnes with an estimated value of RM100,608.33,” he said in a statement today.

In the same statement, Nik Ezanee stressed the agency’s continued commitment to combating the entry of prohibited goods and non-compliant trade items to safeguard the nation’s safety, well-being and sovereignty.

The case is being investigated under the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
