KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s (KPDN) Kuala Lumpur branch seized more than 20,000 units of branded perfumes and skincare creams worth over RM1.4 million, suspected of using counterfeit trademarks, yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur KPDN Enforcement chief Mohd Shahran Mohd Arshad said the operation was carried out at two premises in the capital yesterday, together with representatives of the trademark owners involved.

He said inspections found that both premises, operated by local owners and workers, were suspected of possessing and selling goods bearing counterfeit trademarks.

“Preliminary investigations also found that both premises had been operating for about two years and that supplies were obtained from overseas suppliers before being marketed in the local market.

“The premises were also suspected of selling the goods to customers around the Klang Valley, besides actively marketing and selling the items through online platforms to customers nationwide,” he said in a statement here today.

As a result, two investigation papers have been opened under the Trademarks Act 2019, and seven local individuals were detained for further investigation.
