KOTA BHARU, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- A mechanic was seriously injured in an explosion believed to have been caused by gas leaking from a vehicle’s air-conditioning unit at a workshop near Kampung Air Merbo, Jedok, Tanah Merah yesterday.
Tanah Merah district police chief Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the explosion occurred when Mohd Sharul Nizam Rahim, 31, was repairing a vehicle alone in the workshop.

Police are still looking into the cause of the explosion and preliminary investigations revealed that the cause might be from a gas leak from an air conditioning unit, he said, adding that a police forensic unit and a bomb disposal unit along with the Fire and Rescue Department were investigating the explosion.
"Checks at the incident location revealed there were no CCTVs or any independent witnesses at the location,” he added.
