KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- A comprehensive risk and safety assessment of the mechanical and electrical systems at HELP University’s main campuses in Subang Bestari and Bukit Damansara has found the facilities to be well maintained and safe for reoccupation and continued use.

In a statement today, the university said the findings were confirmed following an audit conducted by its appointed engineering consultancy firm, CHT International, after the air-conditioning gas explosion at its Bukit Damansara campus on Jan 12.

To further strengthen campus safety, HELP University said it will establish an independent Safety Advisory Board comprising experienced safety professionals and subject-matter experts.

“The board will review the findings and recommendations arising from investigations by the authorities, Forensic Services Malaysia and CHT International, and will subsequently provide guidance to further enhance HELP University’s safety framework through practical measures appropriate for an educational environment,” the statement said.

According to the statement, HELP University is still awaiting investigation reports from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Forensic Services Malaysia regarding the cause of the compressor room explosion on Jan 12.

The university is also working closely with the building owner, Amanahraya REIT, and the building management, Knight Frank, to identify the cause of the incident.

“HELP University will continue to place the safety and well-being of its campus community at the core of its operations, guided by expert advice and regulatory oversight, to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all,” the statement said.

The incident on Jan 12 in Bukit Damansara claimed the life of a third-year Mechanical Engineering student from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) who was undergoing industrial training, and injured nine others, including four students.
