KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Maxis, in collaboration with Perak Women for Women Society  (PWW), ushered in the Year of the Horse by bringing cheer and togetherness to underserved families in Ipoh through its ‘Maxis Connecting Moments: Chinese New Year Celebration’.

Maxis, in a statement today, said with the theme of ‘Connecting Today, Prosperity Tomorrow’, the event was held at the Taman Buntong Harmoni People's Housing Projects (PPR) in Ipoh, Perak, with beneficiaries from 100 families from surrounding communities.

“In preparation for the upcoming New Year festivities, each family received essential aid, including rice, cooking oil, sugar, and other daily necessities, complemented by mandarin oranges.

“In addition, the community received 300 free SIM cards and three refurbished laptops, enabling digital access for their weekly complimentary computer classes held at the PPR’s community hub,” it said.

The event was graced by Ipoh City Council (MBI) members K. Sivam and P. Lawrence, alongside representatives from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN).

According to Maxis, the celebration was further enlivened with various family-friendly games, including a lively Bingo session with the support of Maxis volunteers.

A vibrant lion dance and traditional Yee Sang tossing ceremony led to a communal festive lunch, marking the event's conclusion and symbolising unity, abundance, and shared hopes for the year ahead.

In line with its belief that 'Tomorrow Begins Today', Maxis remains committed to uplifting communities in need.

Meanwhile, Maxis Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Azizul Abdul Rahman, in the same statement, said, Chinese New Year is a time for new beginnings and creating meaningful connections.

“... and we are honoured to celebrate it with this community. Through this initiative, we hope to bring festive joy and give back to the families, providing essential support so they can celebrate with peace of mind and stay connected,” he said.
