Tourism Van Drivers Urge Prudent Enforcement Of Industry Rules

10/02/2026 07:15 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Licenced tourism van drivers are calling for enforcement measures on the industry to be implemented prudently and in line with current regulations to avoid confusion and ensure smooth services.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Tour Van Drivers Association said its members operate legally with vehicle permits issued by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and tourism company licences from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC).

It said operational issues that have arisen are believed to stem from differing interpretations of existing provisions, particularly the Tourism Industry Act 1992, which requires review and updating to better reflect current developments in the tourism industry.

The association also proposed clearer separation between transport or transit services and guided tours involving explanations by licensed tourist guides to better suit current industry needs.

“A clear and coordinated enforcement approach would help operators and drivers conduct their services more smoothly,” the statement said.

It also called for continued dialogue with relevant agencies, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ), to ensure policies are clearer and more conducive for all parties.
