KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The Director-General of Broadcasting, Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, has confirmed he will leave Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) at the end of the month, after three years at the helm since January 2023.

Confirming to Bernama, Suhaimi said his departure is a personal decision, made after careful reflection and a desire to enter a new phase of life.

“I’m 64 now. I had retired before being invited to help RTM, and for me, this matter (stepping down) is just a normal part of any career.

“This is an early resignation as my contract wasn’t due to end until next year. The Communications Minister’s office has already been informed,” he said when contacted today.

Suhaimi brings extensive experience in administration and broadcasting, having worked with Sarawak Media Group, Bernama (Malaysian National News Agency), Astro Awani, and Media Prima.

Rumours had surfaced that Suhaimi submitted his resignation and would step down on Feb 22.

Suhaimi holds a Master’s in Business Administration from City University, Bellevue, Washington, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Portland State University, Oregon, USA.

Looking back on his time at the helm, he said his experience with RTM had been highly rewarding, highlighting the organisation’s unique strengths, especially its talent and expertise.

Suhaimi said the progress and achievements at RTM were driven by a creative, passionate, and talented team.

“My experience at RTM has been gratifying. We’ve achieved a lot, and I’m very proud of the team.

“They are talented and hardworking. We know the challenges we face, but we keep moving forward to stay relevant in the years ahead,” he said.
