IPOH, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) uncovered driver violations during a Chinese New Year special operation after its director went undercover as a passenger on an express bus.
State RTD director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan disguised himself and boarded a bus from Penang to Ipoh with three enforcement officers to assess compliance with public transport regulations during the festive season.
“Random checks on four buses from Ipoh to Penang found only one bus in breach for failing to provide a second driver as required,” he said at a press conference at Terminal Meru Raya here today.
He said most bus operators and drivers complied with rules, including safety measures and travel documentation, and that four special undercover teams have been deployed to continue monitoring, including at night.
“The operation is not targeted at any specific company, but is conducted openly across all express bus operators to ensure compliance remains at the highest level,” he added.
Mohammad Yusoff said a total of 1,307 notices and summonses were issued during the operation, with motorcycles recording the highest number at 892, followed by cars at 404 and public service vehicles at 11.
Additionally, 13 seizure notices under Section 64 were recorded, 10 involving motorcycles and three involving cars, along with 185 other notices covering 115 motorcycles and 70 cars.
