KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The passing of former Chief Justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad is a significant loss felt deeply by Malaysia’s judiciary and the nation.
The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court said today that Tun Abdul Hamid, who served as Chief Justice from Nov 1, 2007, to Oct 17, 2008, made invaluable contributions to the Malaysian judiciary during his career.
Chief Justice Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, on behalf of the judiciary and all staff, extended condolences to the family of the late Tun Abdul Hamid, who passed away at noon today, corresponding to 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijrah.
Abdul Hamid died at the age of 83 at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM). He is survived by his wife, Toh Puan Hamidah Choong Abdullah, and four children.
Before becoming Chief Justice, he was appointed Judicial Commissioner on May 1, 1990, High Court Judge in 1992, Court of Appeal Judge on Sept 1, 2000, and Federal Court Judge on Aug 1, 2003.
