BEIJING, Feb 20 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The following are the indices of major stock markets worldwide, reported Xinhua.

IN ASIA (Friday)

The Hang Seng Index opened at 26,657.84 points, down 48.10 points, or 0.18 per cent.

The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 9,072.80 points, down 13.40 points, or 0.15 per cent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 56,979.74 points, down 488.09 points, or 0.85 per cent.

The Straits Times Index opened at 5,024.57 points, up 23.01 points, or 0.46 per cent.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 5,696.89 points, up 19.64 points, or 0.35 per cent.

IN THE UNITED STATES (US) (Thursday)

The S&P 500 Index closed at 6,861.89 points, down 19.42 points, or 0.28 per cent.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 49,395.16 points, down 267.50 points, or 0.54 per cent.

The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 22,682.73 points, down 70.90 points, or 0.31 per cent.

IN EUROPE (Thursday)

The DAX Index closed at 25,043.57 points, down 234.64 points, or 0.93 per cent.

The FTSE 100 Index closed at 10,627.04 points, down 59.14 points, or 0.55 per cent.

The Paris CAC 40 closed at 8,398.78 points, down 30.25 points, or 0.36 per cent.
