FIFA Announces 'True Partnership' With Trump's Board Of Peace

WASHINGTON, Feb 20 (Bernama-dpa) -- United States (US) President Donald Trump's controversial Board of Peace held its inaugural meeting in Washington on Thursday, with representatives from multiple countries as well as an unusual guest: the president of the world football governing body FIFA, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

"Everyone has to support peace," Gianni Infantino said in Washington, adding that FIFA also wanted to help.

In his opening speech at the meeting, Trump said: "Gianni’s going to bring stars to the area."

In a promotional video presented by Infantino, FIFA outlined plans to build playing fields and a stadium for up to 25,000 spectators in the Gaza Strip.

Trump said the association would also help raise US$75 million for football-related projects in Gaza.

Critics have accused Infantino of being too close to governments that do not share Western values.

The Swiss football official also has ties to Trump, whose country is co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.

At the World Cup draw in Washington in early December 2025, the football governing body awarded Trump the newly introduced FIFA Peace Prize.

Referring to previous comments about the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said in his opening remarks that he believed they saw that he had been undermined by Norway and decided to give him a peace prize.

However, after months of repeatedly declaring that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, he said on Thursday, "I don't care about the Nobel Prize. I care about saving lives."
