JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Efforts to prevent and combat corruption in Johor will be progressively strengthened in a comprehensive and sustained manner to curb the problem more effectively, said Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin @ Hamin.

He said the move aligns with the order of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who expressed concern that corruption remains widespread, as though it is no longer seen as contrary to religious teachings and moral values.

“Johor MACC will continue to work closely with the state government to strengthen good governance and foster a culture of integrity in Johor,” he said in a statement today.

The statement followed Hairuzam’s courtesy call on Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at his official residence on Wednesday.

Also present were Johor MACC deputy directors Hairul Ilham Hamzah (operations) and Sheikh Hamadi Sheikh Abdul Hamid (prevention).

Hairuzam said discussions focused on corruption issues and boosting collaboration between enforcement agencies and the state government.

He said the discussion also touched on integrity and good governance in Johor, including enforcement challenges and the need to reinforce anti-corruption measures across the board.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz urged all state civil servants to maintain integrity in their work and avoid seeking or accepting any rewards that could compromise transparency or the public service’s reputation.
