IPOH, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The Kepayang State Assembly Service Centre distributed RM23,000 in aid to 17 families affected by the thunderstorm in Taman Star and Kampung Kepayang last week.

The incident that took place before the Chinese New Year caused damage to residences.

Wong Kar Keat, political secretary of the Kepayang state assemblyman Nga Kor Ming, handed over the aid to the affected victims today.

The incident occurred during a long holiday weekend, complicating repair efforts and disrupting the daily lives of the victims.

"However, after the incident, the Kepayang Assemblyman's Service Centre immediately contacted the Village Development and Security Committee to gather and verify the information of the victims involved," he said in a statement.

Wong said that at the same time, his team is also arranging free temporary accommodation at nearby hotels for families whose homes are not safe to live in.

He also said the amount of assistance for each family is determined according to the level of damage, ranging from RM1,000 to RM3,000.

"Although the amount is limited and cannot fully cover the victims' losses due to the storm, it can immediately help alleviate the burden for the victims' families during this critical time.

"This shows that the service centres of elected representatives, the private sector and related agencies, together with the people, are providing support and assistance to the victims facing difficulties," he added.
