KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Graduates of the Techno-Huffaz Programme have achieved 100 per cent employability through collaboration with multinational companies (MNCs), which currently require tens of thousands of engineers each year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said industry demand is extremely high, with 60,000 engineers needed this year, while the country is only able to supply about 6,000.
“Therefore, the government is committed to producing 125,000 professional techno-huffaz by 2050. The programme is currently being implemented through educational institutions and universities under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), including Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM).
“They not only memorise all 30 juz’ of the Quran, but also pursue professional courses in various fields, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) engineering, the Internet of Things (IoT) and electric vehicles (EV),” he said.
He said this to reporters after officiating the Gen Huffaz Teknokrat MARA 2026 Assembly and the Santunan Kasih Ramadan, at the Federal Territory Mosque, here, today.
Also present were Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad; Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki; as well as nearly 10,000 huffaz, comprising students and alumni of educational institutions under MARA.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said a special pathway has been created for techno-huffaz students at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (MIAT), and the Faculty of Marine Engineering at UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (MIMET), in Lumut, both of which have recorded strong performance.
“They are highly focused and quick to grasp subjects in the field of aerospace, achieving excellent results. I am confident that, with continued monitoring and encouragement, this success can be achieved ahead of the 2050 target,” he said.
When asked whether the Huffaz Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) model would be expanded nationwide, he said that the initiative has already been introduced at seven universities under the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN), and is being implemented across the country.
Meanwhile, MARA, in a statement, said that the government has allocated RM30 million to implement the MARA Industrial Boot Camp (IBC).
The programme aims to train 720 students in professional and technical skills, with industry-recognised certification and guaranteed employability, while helping to align the skills of tahfiz graduates with industry needs.
