KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) -- The exhibition ‘Koleksi Tetap: Cinta Buatan Malaysia 79–89’ is currently on display at the National Art Gallery here, featuring selected works that reflect the nation’s art and visual culture.
In a statement today, the National Art Gallery said the exhibition, held at the Tun Razak Gallery until December 2028, showcases 85 works comprising pieces from the National Art Gallery’s permanent collection as well as loaned works from art collectors.
The exhibition traces developments in Malaysia from 1979 to 1989, a period that witnessed rapid growth in visual arts, film, music and literature, which in turn shaped the lifestyle and thinking of society while also impacting the country’s economy at the time.
The exhibition is divided into seven main segments: contemporary young talents, film, pioneers and leaders of the spirit of the era, ASEAN, sports, Ibrahim Hussein’s murals, and locations and sites of arts and cultural development.
“Through this exhibition, the National Art Gallery presents a unique experience that connects art and visual culture within the gallery space, while providing a deeper understanding of the historical narrative and evolution of Malaysia’s visual arts,” the art gallery said.
The organisation of the exhibition is also part of an initiative to elevate the nation’s arts and culture in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 celebration.
Further information about the exhibition can be obtained at the official website www.artgallery.gov.my or through the National Art Gallery’s official social media channels.
