JKNS Activates Internal Probe Into Train-motor Trolley Collision In Tenom

KOTA KINABALU, March 5 (Bernama) -- The Sabah State Railway Department (JKNS) has launched an internal investigation into a collision involving a train and a motor trolley at KM134/4 of the Tenom-Pangi rail line on Tuesday.

JKNS, in a statement today, said the probe is being conducted by a Board of Inquiry (BOE) in accordance with current investigative procedures.

According to the statement, the department has also lodged a report at the Tenom Police Station to facilitate further action by the authorities.

The department added that any follow-up action would be determined by the BOE's findings, as stipulated under the Railways Enactment 2017.

In the 7.30 am incident, the train reportedly suffered brake failure while en route from Tenom to Pangi.

Villagers had placed a motor trolley on the tracks to slow the train and prevent a more serious accident after noticing a technical malfunction.

The train driver and passengers, the majority of whom were teachers from SK Pangi, were reported to be unharmed.

A video capturing the incident has since gone viral on social media.

JKNS expressed regret over the incident.
