Elderly Man Killed In Sandakan Landslide

SANDAKAN, March 11 (Bernama) -- An elderly man was killed today when a landslide struck as he tried to operate a generator during a power outage at a hotel here.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the 76-year-old hotel employee was partially buried by the landslide.

“The incident occurred during heavy rain, which caused a power outage at the hotel. The victim then tried to start a generator located at the back of the building.

“The fire department was notified of the incident at 6.39 am and the victim was extricated at 7.14 am,” he said in a statement.
