IPOH, March 13 (Bernama) -- Perak police have received several new senior appointments, including the head of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) and police chiefs for the Hilir Perak and Ipoh districts.

The appointments include ACP Mohd Husni Manaf as acting Perak NCID chief, replacing ACP Lee King Chuan, who is now the director of Investigation and Prosecution at the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

Meanwhile, ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah is the new Ipoh district police chief, while ACP Chua Kok Lian becomes Hilir Perak district police chief.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said at the handover-of-duties ceremony here that the appointments ensure leadership continuity, smooth operations, and continued public service delivery.

Noor Hisam said the officers’ experience and commitment will bolster department and district leadership.

He also thanked former Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, who will become Deputy Commander (Training) at Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL), for leading the Ipoh district police headquarters since April 2024.

Former Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin was also honoured on his mandatory retirement on March 15, after 39 years with the police force.

In a separate development, Noor Hisam said Perak police are collecting details on unlicensed houses of worship statewide before coordinating further action with state authorities.

He said they are identifying the number of premises to give the state government an accurate picture of which houses of worship are officially registered.

“Once the information is complete, we will meet with state authorities to determine the next steps,” he said at a press conference after the handover of duties ceremony at the senior officers’ mess here today.

He said Perak police have received no reports of racial tensions arising from unlicensed houses of worship in the state.
