BEIRUT, March 15 (Bernama-WAFA) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday expressed concern that southern Lebanon could turn into a barren land as a result of Israeli aggression, Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported.
Guterres warned the country is witnessing widespread destruction during a press conference in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, at the conclusion of his visit.
He cautioned that southern Lebanon could be reduced to a barren landscape, while Beirut’s southern suburb faces the risk of continued bombardment and even the possibility of total devastation.
Guterres arrived in Beirut on Friday, where he launched an urgent humanitarian appeal worth more than US$308 million to support the Lebanese people.
He said the only solution is diplomacy and dialogue, calling for an end to the bombardment and hostilities.
