KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysians residing or travelling in West Asia have been urged to strictly comply with host government safety directives concerning public safety and the sharing of information as the region’s security situation remains volatile, the Foreign Ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said authorities in several countries, including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, have issued strict warnings against photographing or filming security incidents, interception sites or security personnel, with violations subject to legal penalties.
“Host governments have also warned residents against circulating unverified information or rumours regarding the security situation and have advised the public to rely only on official government sources.
“Malaysians are also advised to comply fully with any local movement restrictions or emergency directives issued by host governments,” the statement read.
The ministry added that the regional security environment remains volatile, with continued military activity reported in several parts of West Asia over the past 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry said it is also closely monitoring developments affecting Malaysian vessels and seafarers operating in the Arabian Gulf following disruptions to maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
It said several Malaysian-operated vessels are currently holding position in the wider Gulf region as commercial cargo traffic through the strait remains disrupted.
“As of the latest reports, all Malaysian crew contacted have been confirmed safe and in good health.
“Malaysian Diplomatic Missions in the region remain in contact with relevant port authorities and shipping operators to monitor the welfare and safety of Malaysian seafarers affected by these maritime disruptions,” the statement read.
The ministry said its Operations Room in Putrajaya remains active on a 24-hour basis and can be contacted at +603-8887 4570 or via email at dutyofficer@kln.gov.my
