Nanta: 50 Pct Toll Discount Helps Ease People's Travel Costs During Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The provision of a 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri is hoped to help ease the travel costs for the people, especially those undertaking long journeys and bearing various preparations for the festive season.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, in a Facebook post today, said that giving a discount is in line with the MADANI Government’s agenda to maintain the unity and well-being of the people across various religions, races and beliefs.

“The implementation of toll discounts will begin at 12.01 am on March 18 and will end at 11.59 pm on March 19, involving Class 1 private vehicles (Class 2 on the Penang Bridge) on all highways except at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll Plaza, North-South Expressway (PLUS), and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

"The selection of the discount implementation date is aimed at avoiding traffic congestion on travel days while optimising operations and additional logistical coordination along rest areas and lay-bys on the highway," he said.

Nanta said all maintenance work would be halted from March 18 to 30 to ensure the smooth operation of the highway, including smoother traffic, avoiding lane closures, and minimising disruptions for users returning to their hometowns or coming back to the capital after Aidilfitri.

“Highway users are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid traffic congestion and are encouraged to download the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) TuJu highway navigation and MyPLUS-TTA applications to receive travel schedule recommendations to enhance driving safety and comfort.

"Follow the instructions on the signboards, speed limits, and pay attention to the information displayed on the Variable Message System (VMS). For those using the smartlane, signal early before entering the lane, drive at the designated speed, and always be aware of your surroundings," he said.

Nanta said users are also advised to check the current traffic status or any incidents on the highway through LLM's official channels on Facebook, TikTok, or by contacting the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752 or the official LLM website for CCTV displays and the LLM Traffic Info WhatsApp Channel.

The MADANI Government today announced a 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration to reduce travel costs for those returning to their hometowns.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision was made in the Cabinet meeting as part of the government's comprehensive measures to assist the people in facing the rising cost of living, especially in the lead-up to the festive season.
