PUTRAJAYA, March 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will soon call in the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Operators Association (PRESMA) to clarify claims that operating costs have risen by 10 to 30 per cent.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said KPDN Enforcement Division director-general Datuk Azman Adam has been tasked with obtaining detailed explanations, backed by solid evidence and supporting data.

“KPDN is committed to working with industry players to find a win-win solution, including examining supply chain factors, input costs and global pressures affecting operators.

“However, any price adjustment must be based on actual costs and cannot be made arbitrarily,” she said in a statement today.

Fuziah added that the ministry will not hesitate to take firm action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 if there are elements of profiteering or unjustified price increases.

Recently, PRESMA said restaurant operators are facing cost increases of between 10 and 30 per cent due to global economic pressures.

Its president, Mohamed Mosin Abdul Razak, said the rise is due to supply chain disruptions, higher logistics costs, and global uncertainty, impacting raw materials, packaging, cooking gas, and utilities.
