Hot Weather: PdPR Not Affecting Learning - Wong

TAIPING, March 30 (Bernama) - - The implementation of Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) following the hot weather will not affect students' learning, but will remain as effective as physical learning.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the PdPR approach is not new, but has been implemented since the COVID-19 pandemic as well as in several unforeseen situations such as natural disasters, thus proving its effectiveness in ensuring the continuity of education.

“Of course, PdPR learning is not new to us, it has been around since the COVID era. Last year, there was also a storm disaster in Selangor, and several schools held PdPR for more than a month.

“PdPR is not a problem, but what is important when we want to address this issue is to ensure that the health and welfare of our children is given priority,” he said when met at the Taiping Municipal Council Oath-Taking Ceremony press conference here today.

Also present were State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and Taiping Municipal Council president Mohamed Akmal Dahalan.

Wong stressed that every implementation of PdPR would be ensured to run effectively and efficiently, besides informing that schools are always ready to either implement PdPR or face-to-face teaching and learning in the classroom according to the needs of the school.

Meanwhile, he said that so far the Ministry of Education has not received any reports of heat stroke cases involving students in schools.

Last Saturday, the Kedah State Education Department (JPN) announced the implementation of PdPR for three days starting yesterday until Tuesday (tomorrow).

The PdPR implementation involved 206 schools in Kota Setar and Pendang after both districts recorded daily heat wave temperature readings at Level 2 for three consecutive days.
