SHAH ALAM, March 30 (Bernama) -- The Port Klang Joint Task Force (JTF) on e-waste intercepted 242 tonnes of electronic waste (e-waste) and scheduled waste during the 18th Op Green Shield this morning.

Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) deputy commander Wan Fazli Wan Hamat said 10 of the seized containers carried 219 tonnes of e-waste, while another container contained 23 tonnes of scheduled waste classified under the SW422 category.

“Imports of such waste are prohibited under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and stern action will be taken against those who violate the law.

“The containers will be placed in a secure area pending re-export in accordance with established procedures,” he said in a statement today.

Wan Fazli said the seizure reflected the authorities’ commitment to preventing the entry of prohibited waste, and AKPS would continue to tighten control at all entry points, including major ports, to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and interests.

The integrated operation involved cooperation from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Department of Environment (DOE), SIRIM and Port Klang Authority.
