KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Bhd is expanding its network with the launch of new routes to Shenzhen and Changsha, China, starting July 2026.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) president and group chief executive officer (CEO), Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar said the network expansion will strengthen the airline's presence across key markets in the months ahead.
"This expansion marks our eighth and ninth destinations in China’s market, which continues to perform strongly for MAG with today an average load factor of 85 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 (1Q 2026).
"With the support of the mutual visa-free arrangements between the two countries, this growth allows us to capture rising demand in one of the world's most dynamic travel markets," he said in his speech at MAG’s network announcement here today.
Captain Nasaruddin also said the airline is resuming flights to Fukuoka, Japan, starting from July this year, marking its third destination in Japan after Tokyo and Osaka.
"Our existing Japan routes have recorded a load factor around 90 per cent 1Q 2026, reflecting strong and sustained travel demand between the two countries," he said.
He also said the resumption of the Fukuoka route is supported by strong business and industrial opportunities, particularly the well-established semiconductor industry on Kyushu Island.
Meanwhile, MAG chief commercial officer, Dersenish Aresandiran said Malaysia Airlines is increasing flight frequencies across key routes, further strengthening its presence in ASEAN, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand, while enhancing connectivity to support the growing travel demand.
"The increased flight frequencies also include the likes of Brisbane, Manila, and Colombo, enhancing flexibility for both leisure and business travellers," he added.
