Bursa Malaysia Higher At Midday

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning trading session higher, in tandem with regional markets, amid improving sentiment following the two-week ceasefire deal between the United States and Iran.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 16.32 points to 1,693.18 from Tuesday’s close of 1,676.86. 

The benchmark index, which opened 11.65 points higher at 1,688.51 earlier, moved between 1,683.58 and 1,693.56 throughout the session.

Market breadth was positive with gainers trouncing losers 722 to 412, while 413 counters were unchanged, 1,118 untraded, and 11 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.27 billion units worth RM1.81 billion.   

Among the heavyweights, Maybank surged 14 sen to RM11.30, Public Bank increased 11 sen to RM4.71, CIMB soared 22 sen to RM7.57, IHH Healthcare went up nine sen to RM8.78, and TNB fell two sen to RM13.98. 

On the most active list, AirAsia X put on eight sen to RM1.24, Zetrix AI rose 1.5 sen to 75.5 sen, Capital A was three sen higher at 46 sen, Bumi Armada was flat at 35.5 sen, and Top Glove shed three sen to 74.5 sen. 

Among the top gainers, Nestle widened RM1.20 to RM99.50, Malaysian Pacific Industries and Fraser & Neave garnered 60 sen each to RM29.60 and RM29.30, respectively. Hong Leong Bank was 50 sen higher at RM22.

As for top losers, United Plantations trimmed 88 sen to RM32.98, Batu Kawan decreased 78 sen to RM21, Kuala Lumpur Kepong slipped 62 sen to RM21.56, and Hibiscus Petroleum slid 25 sen to RM1.94. 

On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index jumped 126.78 points to 12,242.66, the FBM Emas Index expanded by 129.09 points to 12,390.34, the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 64.02 points to 12,208.03, the FBM ACE Index gained 95.16 points to 4,379.74, and the FBM Mid 70 Index rose 215.83 points to 17,165.07.   

By sector, the Financial Services Index improved by 380.64 points to 19,966.76, the Plantation Index lost 218.32 points to 8,877.34, the Industrial Products and Services Index gained 0.93 of-a-point to 183.98, and the Energy Index shed 11.83 points to 799.55.
