KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) ThunderStars have set their sights on a treble as they look to challenge the dominance of Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) ahead of the 2026 Malaysian Hockey League (MHL), which begins this weekend.

Head coach Mohd Madzli Ikmar Mohd Nor said his side, bolstered by 16 national players, would have no excuse not to mount a serious challenge against their main rivals.

“This is the highest number of national players we’ve had, compared with 12 previously.

“The management has set the target, and I accept the challenge. We will go for the treble this year, as we have the best players in Malaysia within the TNB squad,” he told a press conference at the launch of the TNB MHL 2026 today.

The presence of South Korean import Jang Jong Hyun, now in his third season with TNB, is also expected to strengthen the team.

“This is his third year with TNB. His quality remains, and he fully deserves his place. His main strengths are his high skill level and precision,” he said.

TNB will open their campaign against THT in the Charity Shield at the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) Hockey Stadium in Kuala Terengganu this Saturday.

The MHL 2026 season proper begins on April 11, featuring a total of 103 matches - 78 in the men’s competition and 25 in the women’s.
