KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- The National Unity Ministry yesterday launched a handbook on community mediation cases published by the National Unity and National Integration Department (JPNIN) as a guide for community mediators nationwide.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the handbook, themed Mediator Komuniti Pemangkin Keharmonian Negara (Community Mediators as Catalysts for National Harmony) supports the government’s efforts to strengthen unity through harmonious, inclusive and effective conflict resolution at the grassroots level.

“The handbook compiles real cases that can serve as a practical reference for 595 community mediators serving nationwide.

“The handbook also serves as a guide for handling community disputes professionally, without escalating them into complex legal proceedings, while encouraging consensus,” he said in a statement today.

He said the book covers nine key community conflict areas, including neighbourhood disputes, family matters, shared property, religion, land, the environment, contracts, renovations and safety.

It also features nine core mediator ethics, highlighting trust, integrity, professionalism and confidentiality, alongside five mediation steps for a systematic approach to conflict resolution.

Aaron said the initiative would reinforce Malaysia’s role as a regional benchmark for community mediation in ASEAN, placing the country at the forefront of progressive and effective conflict resolution grounded in harmony.

“The ministry is confident the handbook will have a significant impact on the community. With a structured and practical reference, community conflicts can be handled more efficiently and effectively.

“This effort will help foster tolerance, deepen understanding and strengthen harmony among Malaysians of all races, religions and cultures,” he said, adding that the ministry remains committed to empowering community mediators as peace agents to safeguard and strengthen national unity.
