KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia extended its gains into mid-afternoon, supported by continued buying interest in selected heavyweight stocks, mainly in the consumer and industrial product services sectors.
At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged up 2.82 points to 1,686.24 from Wednesday’s close of 1,683.42.
The benchmark index opened 1.44 points higher at 1,684.86.
Market breadth remained positive, with gainers outpacing losers 664 to 465, while 500 counters were unchanged, 1,102 untraded and 23 suspended.
Turnover totalled 2.61 billion units valued at RM1.91 billion.
Among heavyweights, 99 Speed Mart soared 20 sen to RM3.61, Gamuda added 11 sen to RM4.24, and Sime Darby and Maybank each rose four sen to RM2.23 and RM11.10, respectively, while Tenaga Nasional advanced 10 sen to RM14.24.
On the most active list, Borneo Oil inched up half-a-sen to one sen, Zetrix AI added three sen to 82 sen, while ACE Market debutant Golden Destinations shed three sen to 42 sen, and MMAG and V.S. Industry were flat at 3.5 sen and 19.5 sen, respectively.
Among top gainers, Malaysian Pacific Industries climbed RM1.04 sen to RM34.04, United Plantations put on 64 sen to RM33.64, UMS Integration rose 54 sen to RM6.04, KESM Industries surged 32 sen to RM3.39, and SAM Engineering and Equipment jumped 25 sen to RM3.70.
As for the top losers, Kuala Lumpur Kepong fell 50 sen to RM21.00, PPB Group slipped 22 sen to RM11.50, Press Metal Aluminium dropped 15 sen to RM7.86, Gas Malaysia shed 12 sen to RM5.40 and Petronas Chemicals was down 11 sen to RM5.52.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index rose 38.31 points to 12,286.65, while the FBM Emas Index added 43.95 points to 12,453.21 and the FBM Mid 70 Index climbed 131.42 points to 17,634.69. The FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 45.90 points to 12,377.97, while the FBM ACE Index increased 28.78 points to 4,538.77.
By sector, the Financial Services Index garnered 74.45 points to 19,722.84, while the Plantation Index slipped 18.51 points to 8,884.12, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.81 of-a-point to 186.78 and the Energy Index slid 5.84 points to 818.17.
