KUANTAN, April 17 (Bernama) -- A teenage boy is feared to have drowned while foraging for clams at Pantai Balok here this evening.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said an emergency call was received regarding the disappearance of the 16-year-old at 6.02 pm.
He said a team from the Kuantan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene and arrived shortly afterwards, before commencing search operations along the shoreline with the assistance of members of the public.
“So far, the victim has yet to be found and the search and rescue (SAR) operation is still ongoing,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Salahuddin said the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) of the Kuantan BBP had also been alerted to assist in the search operation.
He said the operation involved 12 personnel, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a lorry and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.
