Auto Sales In March 2026 Up 21 Pct Versus February's Figure

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's automotive industry recorded a 21 per cent increase in total industry volume (TIV) to 63,489 vehicles in March 2026 compared to the preceding month.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said although the volume was relatively low, it remained broadly in line with the recent five-year average of about 72,000 units.

However, on a year-on-year basis, sales volume fell 13 per cent from the 72,931 units achieved in the corresponding month last year.

“The moderation in TIV was mainly due to Hari Raya festive holidays (including the additional public holiday declared on March 20, 2026) and the temporary plant shutdowns during the festive period,” MAA said in a statement.

Production dropped 17 per cent to 48,129 units in March 2026 from 58,063 units a year earlier.

Meanwhile, for the January-March 2026 period, sales declined three per cent to 182,113 units from 188,432 units in the same three months last year.

Production fell 10 per cent to 159,367 units from 177,603 units in the same quarter of 2025.

On the outlook for this month, MAA said “sales are expected to consolidate.”
