KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained higher in mid-afternoon, supported mainly by renewed buying interest in banking and utilities heavyweights.
At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 11.09 points to 1,713.39 from Monday’s close of 1,702.30.
The benchmark index opened 0.31 points higher at 1,702.61.
Market breadth remained positive, with gainers thumping losers 637 to 491, while 497 counters were unchanged, 1,134 untraded and 13 suspended.
Turnover totalled 2.31 billion units valued at RM1.86 billion.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank added two sen to RM11.36, Public Bank gained nine sen to RM4.78, Tenaga Nasional rose 24 sen to RM14.64, and CIMB Group advanced 21 sen to RM7.80, while IHH Healthcare fell four sen to RM8.74.
On the most active list, AirAsia X jumped 10 sen to RM1.40, VS Industry increased two sen to 21 sen, and Zetrix AI and Velesto Energy edged up one sen each to 86.5 sen and 35 sen, respectively, while Main Market debutant MTT Shipping slipped two sen to RM1.01.
Among the top gainers, Malaysian Pacific Industries surged RM1.50 to RM35.70, Hong Leong Bank climbed 40 sen to RM22.80, Hong Leong Financial Group rose 36 sen to RM19.24, Dutch Lady Milk Industries gained 28 sen to RM32.30, and UWC bagged 22 sen to RM4.77.
Of the top losers, UMS Integration declined 27 sen to RM5.88, Petronas Chemicals dropped 25 sen to RM5.06, Fraser & Neave fell 24 sen to RM31.22, Bintulu Port lost 24 sen to RM5.35, and ITMAX System slid 13 sen to RM4.79.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index rose 72.46 points to 12,456.24, the FBM Emas Index gained 78.55 points to 12,621.90, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 68.06 points to 17,756.64, the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 24.64 points to 12,448.31, and the FBM ACE Index improved 47.12 points to 4,630.10.
By sector, the Financial Services Index strengthened 260.78 points to 20,278.23, the Industrial Products and Services Index erased 2.26 points to 184.46, the Energy Index inched up 0.23 of a point to 806.29, and the Plantation Index trimmed 19.0 points to 8,853.12.
