KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- GWM Malaysia recorded a steady performance in the first quarter of 2026 (1Q 2026), delivering 1,294 units amid evolving automotive market conditions.
The company said it maintained its position among Malaysia’s top 15 automotive brands, supported by continued demand for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
“While overall market activity moderated during the quarter, demand continued to shift towards hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV segments, in which GWM Malaysia is steadily strengthening its presence,” it said in a statement today.
The company added that performance improved progressively throughout the quarter, with March showing stronger results in line with stabilising consumer sentiment and sustained interest in its product line-up.
GWM Malaysia said the WEY G9 Hi4 plug-in hybrid EV sustained strong post-launch momentum, emerging as the top Chinese luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Malaysia in 1Q 2026.
“Since its introduction, the model has set a new benchmark in its segment, reinforcing the growing acceptance of plug-in hybrid solutions that combine electric driving capability with long-distance flexibility,” it said.
“As the first model to introduce GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid system in Malaysia, it also signals the brand’s long-term direction in electrification and intelligent energy management,” it added.
The HAVAL H6 hybrid EV also remained a key contributor, building on its standing as one of Malaysia’s best-selling hybrid models in 2025, where it recorded a 14.9 per cent market share, it noted.
GWM Malaysia also said the TANK 300 strengthened its presence in the lifestyle and off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment, while the TANK 500 expanded its footprint in the premium SUV category, alongside the ORA Good Cat, which continued to serve as an accessible EV option, particularly among urban consumers.
GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi said the company remains focused on delivering practical mobility solutions despite challenging market conditions.
“Our performance reflects growing confidence in the brand, supported by a balanced product portfolio and our continued commitment to long-term value,” he said.
Looking ahead, the company said momentum is expected to be supported by upcoming product activity, including the launch of the TANK 300 HEV, as well as participation in industry events, while it continues to prioritise dealer network expansion, after-sales enhancement and customer engagement initiatives.
It added that it aims to expand its network to 60 outlets nationwide by end-2026 from 39 currently, while maintaining parts availability and service standards.
The company further said that it would continue to advance its multi-powertrain strategy across internal combustion engine, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric offerings to cater to evolving consumer needs.
