IPOH, April 24 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a man for allegedly committing sexual harassment at a supermarket in Gerik yesterday.
Gerik police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said they received a report regarding the incident at 5.57 pm.
He said investigations found that at 3.33 pm, the complainant, a 25-year-old woman working at the supermarket, heard a sound like a zipper being opened before going over to check, and found the suspect engaged in an indecent act while looking at her.
“The complainant recorded the incident on her mobile phone and scolded the suspect, who then immediately left the supermarket.
“The Gerik police managed to track down and arrest the 55-year-old man and will seek a remand order today to facilitate further investigations,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Samad said the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Meanwhile, he said the suspect, who is unemployed and single, had received treatment for mental issues, adding that the suspect was arrested at the Gerik Bus Station at 9.45 pm.
