JOHOR BAHRU, April 24 (Bernama) -- About 60 per cent or 6,009 out of more than 10,000 applications to join UMNO as new members under the Rumah Bangsa initiative are youth, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan said.
The Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee member said that the applications included the Wanita and Puteri wings.
"From the 10,000, 60 per cent are those aged 40 and below,” he said at a media conference after conducting a site visit here today, adding that it proved that UMNO was still the choice for youth.
He said that UMNO’s readiness and openess to accept members it had sacked as one aspect in attracting new members.
Rumah Bangsa is an initiative to unite UMNO introduced by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to unite Malays and bring its former members back into the fold.
