KANGAR, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Perlis state government has expressed its highest appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) for approving an allocation of RM18.9 million to develop the state’s agricultural sector from 2024 to this year.

Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the allocation is channelled through the Food Security Strengthening Programme and the National Agri-Food Empowerment Programme.

He said the ministry’s continued support is highly significant in strengthening the state’s overall agri-food development agenda.

“It is hoped that (administration) members and civil servants will continue to engage closely, understand the needs of target groups, and deliver services swiftly and effectively to ensure the well-being of every household is always given due attention,” he said.

Abu Bakar said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of Perlis Agrofest 2026, officiated by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, at Sungai Batu Pahat near here last night.

Also present were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

The three-day Perlis Agrofest, which began yesterday, is a strategic initiative to strengthen the development of the state’s agriculture, livestock and agri-food industries.
