KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to the appointment of former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), effective May 13.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment is in line with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act (Act 694).

“The government is confident that with his extensive experience and high integrity, he will be able to strengthen governance, enhance public confidence and intensify anti-corruption efforts in the interest of the nation,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Halim’s appointment is to replace Tan Sri Azam Baki, whose tenure is scheduled to end on May 12.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim submitted a list of candidates for the MACC chief commissioner position to His Majesty.
