NADI Recognised As Member Of ITU's Digital Transformation Centres Network

25/04/2026 06:13 PM

BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 25 (Bernama) -- The National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has officially been accepted as a member of the Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) network under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the recognition proved that community-level efforts could have a significant impact and gain global acknowledgement.

He said more encouragingly, the recognition followed NADI’s achievement in winning the Capacity Building category in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes last year.

“MCMC will continue to strengthen NADI’s role as a national digital community hub through the expansion of digital literacy programmes, development of new skills and access to more opportunities for the public.

“Our focus is clear, which is to ensure that the people not only have access to technology, but are able to leverage it to transform their lives,” he said when speaking at the ceremony to celebrate the recognition at NADI Kubang Semang here today.

The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

Fahmi said to date, a total of 1,099 NADI centres are operating nationwide with membership reaching 1.9 million, reflecting strong public acceptance and its role as an important platform in helping communities adapt to economic and technological changes.

He said NADI’s impact was evident through the implementation of Smart Services focusing on five main pillars, namely entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, personal well-being, awareness and government initiatives.

Meanwhile, MCMC in a statement said that the recognition made NADI the 16th centre in the ITU-DTC global network.

According to the statement, the membership demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to expanding digital inclusion, particularly among rural communities and those with limited access to technology.

“MCMC aims to train 180,000 entrepreneurs through 18 modules available at 1,099 NADI centres nationwide.

“In addition, NADI will gain access to international training modules from global strategic partners such as Cisco Systems, further enhancing the quality of training and the capabilities of instructors,” the statement said.

According to MCMC, the membership also opens up opportunities for globally recognised digital certification, thereby improving the marketability of local talent in the digital economy.

It said the implementation of the initiative did not involve additional cost to the government as it leveraged existing international strategic collaborations.

“This recognition is in line with the MADANI Economy aspiration and MCMC remains committed to strengthening NADI’s role as a platform for national digital community development.

“With participation in the ITU-DTC network, Malaysia is on a strong footing to emerge as a leader in digital inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region,” the statement said.
