BUKIT KAYU HITAM, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized 9,000 kilogrammes of animal feed at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex here after it was found to have no valid permit.

Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS Commander SAC Fauzi Mohd Yusof said that during an ongoing operation from April 22 until today, the agency also seized various food items without valid documents.

He said the animal feed was seized following an inspection of a consignment belonging to a company.

Fauzi added that the inspection revealed the goods to be Monas Ocean Fish Flavour animal feed, which did not have a valid permit as prescribed.

“It is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728),” he said in a statement today.

According to Fauzi, a total of 450 bags of animal feed, weighing 9,000 kilogrammes, were seized, with an estimated value of RM30,358.

“AKPS will not compromise with any party attempting to bring in goods without a valid permit. Stern action will be taken to ensure the country’s biosecurity is safeguarded at all times,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fauzi said that various types of food were seized after inspections found that they did not comply with labelling requirements under the Food Act 1983.

He said that among the items seized were instant noodles, salmon skin, beef tripe, chicken cartilage, meatballs, pork sausages, Thai basil and mushroom seeds.

Fauzi said that AKPS would continue to tighten controls and inspections at the country’s entry points to ensure that all goods entering the country comply with the regulations in force.

He also reminded the public and importers to always comply with the regulations and obtain a valid permit before bringing any goods into the country.
