KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has congratulated Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Star Media Group reporter Tarrence Tan Jian Wai, recipients of media awards at the 2026 National Workers’ Day celebration.
Held today at Unifi Arena Bukit Jalil, the ceremony saw RTM win the Best Media Award (Agency), with Tarrence picking up the Best National Media Award (Individual).
Fahmi, who has known Tarrence for years, praised him as an outstanding journalist.
"I'm really proud to see media colleagues like Tarrence, the first time I've seen him in a suit and tie, honoured as the country's top media worker. Congrats too to RTM," he told reporters afterwards.
Fifty Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff attended the event, including deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Mohd Shukri Ishak and acting deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Services) Harlina Samson.
Fahmi also expressed pride as Telekom Malaysia Bhd clinched the Best National Employer Award (large companies/government-linked companies), with Tenaga Nasional Bhd winning Best Workers’ Day Contingent.
Meanwhile, Fahmi welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement of the RM710 million-plus Progressive Acceleration for Capability and Employment (PACE) package to strengthen human capital and stabilise the job market.
"I hope big companies heed the Prime Minister's message and use this support to raise wages and improve worker protections, all without cutting into their profits," he said.
