KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- The MyFutureJobs booth was among the key highlights for visitors at the 2026 National Workers' Day Carnival at Unifi Arena here, offering live career guidance and free resume review services.
Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Employment Services Officer, Farah Mohd Khairudzaman, said that the initiative aims to strengthen the readiness of the local workforce, particularly to help those affected by retrenchments and help fresh graduates to enhance their employability.
"We provide resume review sessions to identify shortcomings that cause applicants to often fail to receive feedback from employers. We help them insert the right 'keywords' or skills to attract the attention of prospective employers," she told Bernama at the carnival today.
Farah added that the career guidance is aimed at addressing job seekers' concerns regarding the issue of 'mismatch' in fields of study, as many candidates are hesitant to apply for positions if their educational background does not align with the job scope offered.
Besides advisory services, Farah noted that visitors also had the opportunity to be introduced to the 'MyFutureJobs Galaxy' feature on the MyFutureJobs portal, which allows job seekers to identify the specific skills required by the industry for particular positions.
"If they do not have those skills, they need to enhance them to remain competitive in the job market," she said, describing the reception as very encouraging.
Commenting on current trends, Farah revealed that the administration, wholesale, and manufacturing sectors are among the industries most actively offering job opportunities in Malaysia currently.
Based on Job Market Snapshot statistics shared by Farah, as of last February, there were approximately 90,000 job vacancies offered by 24,000 companies, with accountant positions being among those in high demand.
Farah emphasised that MyFutureJobs is a trusted national job portal under the Ministry of Human Resources, dedicated to Malaysians.
"Employers registered here are legitimate and free from elements of fraud or scammers. In fact, this portal also provides opportunities for industrial training placements (internship)," she added.
A participant who received career guidance at the MyFutureJobs booth, Nor Irmazatul Irwan Soriman, 34, said the guidance provided successfully dispelled her concerns regarding the risks of changing career fields.
"Initially, I was confused and afraid that if I switched fields, I would have to start from the bottom like a fresh graduate with an entry-level salary.
"After attending this booth, I finally received a real explanation that it is actually possible to switch fields because my scope of work still relates to the field I want to enter," said the aspiring Human Resources professional.
Meanwhile, Nor Irmazatul also shared the importance of updating resumes according to the latest standard formats to ensure job applicants are not left behind during the initial screening process.
"Previously, I wondered why my applications to big companies were often not called for interviews, and just now I was told that my resume was outdated and did not follow the latest standard format," she said.
The 2026 National Workers' Day Carnival is taking place from today until Sunday, involving over 50 exhibitors from various ministries, departments, government agencies, and industries.
They are providing direct services to the public in one integrated location, including job vacancy offers and direct interview sessions with employers.
