KOTA BHARU, May 1 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) seized various types of frozen food as well as fish, prawns and ornamental turtles suspected of being smuggled from a neighbouring country worth RM22,760 in an operation at the illegal Lan Bundle base near Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, yesterday.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the seizure was carried out by members of the Strike Force/Tiger Platoon, Battalion 9, GOF through Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan at 6.30 pm.

He said that during a patrol in Kampung Lubok Gong, members spotted a group of men unloading black plastic packages and styrofoam boxes from a boat into a vehicle on the riverbank.

"However, all the individuals involved fled towards a neighbouring country by boat as soon as they realised the presence of the authorities, while an inspection of the abandoned Proton Wira found 234 kilogrammes of frozen food and various aquatic animals believed to have been smuggled through illegal routes," he said in a statement today.

He said among those seized were 120 rasbora, 20 koi, 60 killifish, 45 nilem fish, as well as various species of prawns and 60 turtles.

Ahmad Radzi said no arrests were made and the case was handed over to the Rantau Panjang Customs for further action under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.
