MELAKA, May 3 (Bernama) -- Welfare aspects are among the key focus areas in the implementation of the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) Programme, ensuring that target groups and those in need receive due assistance and are not left behind in aid distribution.

State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Nordin said that through the initiative, three agencies under her portfolio, namely the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) and the State Women’s Development Office (PPW), were being mobilised in an integrated manner to reach the target groups.

“Each of these agencies plays its respective role, with JKM serving as the main pillar of people’s welfare through the Ziarah Kasih programme, LPPKN focusing on family health, while PPW empowers women through various programmes under the WRUR initiative.

“However, each welfare aid recipient varies according to the respective state constituency. For example, in the Pengkalan Batu state constituency previously, more than 200 households had received the necessary assistance,” she told reporters here today.

She said this after the opening ceremony of the Ayer Molek state constituency-level WRUR Programme, officiated by State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan and also attended by Ayer Molek assemblyman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.

Kalsom also said the WRUR Programme served as the best platform to ensure the continuity of welfare programmes in the state in a more effective manner.

She said this was because most of the target groups involved were welfare aid recipients in the state, adding that the initiative would enable continued support, ensuring they would not encounter any problems throughout the period they receive assistance.
