Royal Institution Crucial In Ensuring Integrity In State Governance - Selangor UMNO

SHAH ALAM, May 7 (Bernama) -- Selangor UMNO fully supports and welcomes the official statement issued yesterday by the Selangor Council of the Royal Court regarding the role and responsibilities of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as a Constitutional Ruler.

“The statement is very important in clarifying to the people that every decree, advice, reprimand and reminder issued by the Sultan of Selangor is in line with the spirit of Constitutional Monarchy and His Royal Highness’ role as state ruler, prioritising the interests of the people and the stability of the state,” said state UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin in a statement today.

In this regard, he said all parties must respect the position and role of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in accordance with the Federal Constitution and the Laws of the Constitution of Selangor 1959, without politicising His Royal Highness’ decrees and views.

According to him, the royal institution is the protector of the state, a symbol of the people’s unity and a pillar of stability that must be preserved and respected by all parties regardless of political affiliation.

He said the institution plays an important role in ensuring that the state administration is carried out responsibly, with integrity and in the best interests of the people.

He said Selangor UMNO remains consistent in defending the Selangor royal institution against any form of insult, slander, provocation or attempts to undermine the dignity of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“Previously, Selangor UMNO had also consistently defended the Sultan of Selangor’s decree regarding the pig farming issue in the state, which certain parties tried to distort, besides condemning the rude act of editing and insulting the image of the Sultan of Selangor, which clearly crossed the boundaries of decorum, culture and the principle of respecting the royal institution.

“In today’s increasingly challenging political climate, Selangor UMNO calls on all parties to be more mature, prudent and responsible when issuing statements related to the royal institution, and not to turn matters involving the Sultan of Selangor into narrow political polemics,” he said.

He said the priority of all parties at present should be focused on resolving issues affecting the people, strengthening state stability and ensuring the administration runs effectively in line with the spirit of Constitutional Monarchy practised in the country.

Yesterday, the Selangor Council of the Royal Court stressed that the Sultan of Selangor consistently emphasises effective action rather than empty promises in resolving issues affecting the people, in line with His Royal Highness’ role as Head of State.

They said any advice, reprimand and reminder by the Sultan of Selangor constitute important counsel from a Ruler to ensure that the state administration is carried out responsibly.
