Two Bersatu Reps’ Expulsion Issue To Be Presented To Kedah Sultan - Sanusi

ALOR SETAR, May 9 (Bernama) -- The status of two Kedah assemblymen expelled from Bersatu will be reviewed by the state government before the matter is presented to the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said any action regarding the matter must go through the stipulated administrative process and obtain the consent of the Sultan of Kedah.

“For now, both elected representatives are carrying out their duties as usual while the state government studies the issue before seeking an audience with the Sultan of Kedah to present the latest developments.

“All actions must follow the administrative process. We need to discuss the matter in detail, inform His Royal Highness and subsequently go through the procedures that have been set,” he said in a statement today.

He was commenting on the positions of Suka Menanti assemblyman Dzowahir Ab Ghani, who is also state Agriculture, Plantation and Transport Committee chairman, and Sungai Tiang assemblyman Abdul Razak Khamis, who serves as State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker, following their expulsion from Bersatu.

Muhammad Sanusi, who is also Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, said that for now, both elected representatives are carrying out their duties as usual and are serving as independent assemblymen supporting the state government.

According to him, Bersatu had previously submitted a letter requesting the replacement of the Exco member and deputy speaker, but no action was taken as both leaders were still members of the party at the time.

He said the matter was also discussed during his meeting with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali at the Kubang Rotan state constituency and Kedah Bersatu Aidilfitri open house on April 10.

“At that time, neither elected representative had been subjected to any disciplinary action by the party, so there was no reason to replace them with other individuals. Now that the official expulsion letters have been received, any action remains subject to the procedures governing the appointment of Exco members and the deputy speaker,” he said.

Yesterday, Bersatu, through a notice issued by its disciplinary board chairman, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, announced that Dzowahir and Abdul Razak had been expelled from the party with immediate effect.

Both were expelled under Clause 22.5 of the party constitution for allegedly violating Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution as well as the party’s code of ethics and conduct.
