KUANTAN, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Pahang state government is implementing a project to replace ageing pipes costing about RM290 million, with 94.3 kilometres of the total 607.3 kilometres of pipes having been replaced so far, the State Legislative Assembly was told today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the initiative was implemented, among others, to improve water supply quality and reduce non-revenue water (NRW) losses.

He said the effort reflected the state government’s commitment since 2022, and would continue to be implemented in a focused and phased manner until 2031.

“We have identified 607.3 kilometres of pipes that are in a critical condition, old and experiencing frequent breakages, with 94.3 kilometres having been replaced so far.

“A total of 101 kilometres of pipes are still under construction, while another 412 kilometres are in the pre-construction stage,” he said during the sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.

He said this in response to a question from Hassanuddin Salim (PN-Kuala Semantan) on the total length of old and dilapidated water pipes in Pahang that needed to be replaced.

Wan Rosdy said Pahang currently has an extensive distribution pipe network spanning approximately 15,000 kilometres across the state, covering urban, rural and areas with challenging terrain.

Meanwhile, he said more than 90 per cent of water supply issues in the districts of Kuantan, Temerloh, Bentong and Raub have been resolved

“The state government will continue to strengthen the water supply system to ensure more efficient, stable and high-quality water service delivery that meets the needs of the people,” he said.
