PUTRAJAYA, May 15 (Bernama) -- An initial allocation of RM100,000 has been disbursed immediately for cleanup and recovery work following a fire in the storage room of the hall at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 14(1) yesterday, according to the Putrajaya Federal Territory Education Department.

The department said in a statement today that Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced the allocation after visiting the scene yesterday.

It said the allocation also includes initial work such as restoring disrupted utilities, minor repairs in the fire-affected area and nearby buildings, including other related works.

“The Putrajaya Federal Territory Education Department has taken immediate steps to cordon off the affected area and surrounding sections to ensure the safety, welfare and well-being of the school community,” read the statement.

Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the incident, it added.

Firefighters confirmed they received an emergency call at 6.10 pm regarding a fire involving chairs and tables stored at the rear of the hall’s stage area.

No injuries were reported as it was after school hours had ended.
