SHAH ALAM, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government today launched the Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa Selangor (BRAIS) 2026 programme to expand existing support for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PwDs).

State Women Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said the initiative, under the Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS), is a rebranding of the Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor (ANIS) aimed at delivering more comprehensive and high-impact development for PwDs in the state.

She said BRAIS 2026 introduces several significant improvements, including a new category of assistance for disability-friendly residential toilet facilities with aid of RM1,500, as well as assistance of RM1,200 for medication, supplements and other special needs.

“The additions are intended to ensure that facilities and basic healthcare needs for PwDs at home are better maintained and more comfortable.

“Additionally, the age limit for beneficiaries has been increased from 18 to 60 years, enabling adult PwDs to access assistance for equipment, medical needs and therapy support,” she said at a press conference after the launch of BRAIS 2026 and the HajiKids 2.0 programme here today.

Elaborating further, Anfaal said that in addition to the new categories, BRAIS 2026 will retain existing support, including assistance for therapy centre fees (RM1,200), special equipment (up to RM3,000) and special education school fees (RM120).

She added that the submission of supporting documents for applications under the initiative will be conducted entirely online to expedite the approval process and ease matters for parents and guardians.

Applications for BRAIS 2026 will open from June 1 at 8.30 am until 5 pm on June 22 via the official website at www.yanis.org.my/brais.

In another development, Anfaal said a total of 2,500 children aged between four and 12 were celebrated today through the HajiKids 2.0 programme, a unique Islamic educational initiative that uses practical simulation methods and interactive visual technology to provide children with an immersive learning experience on the haj pilgrimage.

She said HajiKids 2.0 is also seen as an excellent collaborative platform in the state government’s efforts to mainstream PwDs in Selangor.

“This spirit of inclusivity is clearly reflected through sponsorship by YANIS for the participation of 35 special needs children from the YANIS Centre, as well as 18 participants with cerebral palsy in the programme,” she said.

In addition, Anfaal said YANIS aims to explore long-term strategic collaboration with leading animation company Warnakala Studios to leverage popular digital ecosystems such as Didi & Friends as a medium to enhance public awareness through more disability-friendly communication.
